What Is The Role Of The Governing Body?

The Governing Body of Ranelagh School is committed to ensuring every young person attending the school has the opportunity to fulfil their potential.

The Governing Body does not run the school on a day-to-day basis; this is the job of the Headteacher and other senior staff. The Governing Body’s job is to oversee the success of the school, agreeing priorities and monitoring progress towards them.  It supports the work of the Headteacher and staff by acting as a “critical friend”, providing support and advice as well as asking challenging questions. It has three main roles:

• To work with the Headteacher to determine the school’s vision, setting aims and objectives for how the school will develop and improve.
• To hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school.
• To monitor the financial performance of the school, making sure its money is spent wisely.

Our governors are supported in their role by the training and resources available from Bracknell Forest Governor Services, the Diocesan Governor Services, and membership of the National Governance  Association. The work of the Governing Body is inspected by OFSTED as part of the school’s Leadership and Management.
